The Event

RapierVienna2017 is hosted by “Fechtschule Klingenspiel” and will consist of two full days of workshops, sparring and fun, as well as a guided tour through the beautiful city of Vienna (and its pubs and a museum too!)

The event is dedicated to the rapier and its companion weapons and to those who are in love with this beautiful weapon.

The Host

For those of you who haven’t had the pleasure of getting to know “Fechtschule Klingenspiel” we’d like to introduce ourselves to you briefly.

Fechtschule Klingenspiel consists of all types of history & weapon enthusiasts who focus on a practical and historically authentic approach to researching the fencing of ancient weapons.

Rapier as our main weapon takes most of our practice time but beside that there are also weekly trainings in sabre and sword and buckler (I.33). Although we mainly focus on the training of Single Rapier techniques our more experienced fencers also deal with Rapier in combination with its companion weapons.

Our rapier training focuses on the treatises of Ridolfo Capoferro and Salvatore Fabris interpreted by two different groups of fencers caused by the divergent nature of these two styles of Italian rapier fencing.

Should I take part?

Absolutely yes!
If you’re a rapier-enthusiast, interested in meeting others of your kind and in getting some more experience in using this elegant weapon, we are glad to have you here. So come and join us!

There are many events over Europe which offer workshops for beginners. Based on this we decided to have none of these, so you should not be an absolute newbie to rapier.

If you already had a rapier in your hand before, we are looking forward to seeing you in July!
